a dark fantasy | CIRCUS PHOTO SHOOT

Earlier this year we blogged about the fundraiser we did for Dustin David and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation. What we haven’t blogged about yet was the wedding inspired dark circus photo shoot that coincided with this event. So in the spirit of Halloween we decided to share these never before seen pictures of the photo shoot.
A Parisian dark circus came to our warehouse and transformed our memories forever. We were enticed by characters caught between dreams and reality as they pranced and flirted amongst themselves. This is our inspiration to the world of the possibilities that lie within us and within you. We wanted to show not what is but what can be within the event world. It is a bit of a stage, a bit of a dare, and a bit of a fantasy all captured on film. Tinywater photography  brought it to the next level capturing it in such radiant colors. Caroline truly brought it to life as she created a saturation of reds and an intensity of blues.

We created our wardrobe and apparel with an eclectic formal vibe. We wanted to present a color palette of deep red, gold, black, white and dusty blue. These colors repeat themselves across the board bringing cohesion in an eclectic backdrop. The black and white brought the formality. The red and gold brought the pops of circus, and the blue added a hint of playfulness and color. Patterns are important when creating a style. The pinstripe and lace are the repeat patterns we worked with. We found shoes, jackets, blouses & dresses at vintage stores and markets. As we chose models and actors to play each part a new world emerged.

Instead of positioning each character in the set, as a wedding would take place, we brought it to life a bit more like a music video or a short film. The intensity of the interactions vibrates off the screen. The models and actors played each part and a new world appeared.

Thomas John events prepared popcorn set in his custom made two-person hand held tray. We decorated the tray in tassels and fringe to fit the part. They also provided a cigarette tray. We fringed it as well. Our cigarette girl walked the night passing out Barnum and Bailey animal cookies and brightly colored candy.

Our lonely heart bartender poured cocktails behind the bar and chatted with the boys looking to pass the night away. Our seductive bridesmaid twirled her umbrella as she watched the ceremony unfold. Our groomsman was complete with a ventriloquist that he flirted with the girls through. It was a little creepy but kind of worked.

Maria Chang did an incredible job on each model’s hair and make up. She is a true artist. We wanted something that was inspired by fantasy but could cross over into reality. We love how she managed both.

Happy Halloween!!! And be sure to check back next week as we share a real circus themed wedding that actually happened the same week that we did this photo shoot.

And Andrew of Studio MSV created an incredible video capturing his vision of the dark circus. Be sure to check it out. But be careful because you might get creeped out.

About Asiel Design

We believe design begins with a relationship of trust with your wedding planner and event designer. When choosing an event designer or a wedding coordinator, we believe that you should feel listened to, understood, and guided through the process in a way, which helps you achieve a look and feel that is personalized to your style. There should be a connection with the designer’s work, esthetic, and a comfort-ability with the professionalism of the company they represent. Mutual respect between the client and the wedding coordinator or event designer is the foundation to a successfully designed event. We believe it is the client who holds all the secrets to their design – what they like, what excites them, and the message and experience they desire to convey throughout their event.
